In God I trust, but He’s testing of me has taken yet another turn. I have actually been attacked by these demon creatures we previously found hidden below the Bishop cemetery.
It started at Mr. Ropes’ office. Ingham Locke and I were introduced to yet another war hero, an American flying ace titled Lord Haart. As Ingham visited Arkham to find some ritual for controlling the undead, Mr. Flying Ace and I took a cab to office Carlton’s office. He somehow had managed to obtain a warrant for the Bishop estate, including the cemetery and the area below. Our mandate was a bit unclear for me, but I chose to get below the earth to keep things a bit under control. Lord Haart followed me, and as we waited for Mr. Carlton to present the warrant for Mr. Bishop, we had a chat with 4 police officers who volunteered to join us. Nice men. Hard working. Brave. I also sent a prayer to my Lord, begging for strength.
We got the message to go ahead, so we entered the tunnel guarded by the zombies. The 4 officers didn’t approve, but followed us through the narrow tunnel. As we approached the zombies, I made a move and knocked the head of the first one. Lord Haart managed to slice one open, but the creature advanced and bear hugged him. I heard some bones brake. The other zombies also attacked, and managed to grasp me as well, breaking one of my arms. As we both fainted, the officers were in big trouble as they were attacked from two angels, -behind (ghoul) and in front (zombies) with no way to run. They tried to shoot the creatures, but the bullets didn’t do much harm. As I woke, I predicted one safe way out of this mess: to run. God’s test was too hard for me, and as I picked up Lord Flying Ace, I saw one of the officers run with his flute well placed in his mouth. The creatures followed us as we ran, and I occasionally heard the flute in the tunnels until it suddenly stopped. I managed to find the stairs leading up to the sarcophagus, but I was barely able to climb with Mr. Haart in my arms. As I hammered the lid for some seconds, and when it was removed, I looked directly into a revolver. I once again fainted.
I woke up at one of the city’s hospitals, with an arm in a cast. Luckily Agent Haart was also alive with some broken ribs. I called the agency. After a while Mr. Cribbs picked up Mr. Haart, and we left for Mr. Ropes’ office. Unknown why, Mr. Ropes started to yell at us. Obviously 4 officers were missing, and we somehow were to blame. He calmed when we convinced him that the officers had it coming, since they were so eager to pursue evil and tried to act by themselves.
We both were removed from service due to our medical condition.
